Trust a Jamaican to beat you at your own game....right in your own backyard at that. Ask Jodi-Ann Maxwell, the twelve year old school girl from Ardenne High in Kingston Jamaica. She pleased, yes sir'd, and thank you'd , her way to become the 71st Champion of the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee Competition held in the United States in May 1998.

Jodi-Ann epitomizes the brilliance, innovativeness and the unique paradoxical traits of pride and humility of the Jamaican people. Polite but not subservient, confident but not overbearing, Jodi-Ann spelled her way into the heart of the world.
