About
Jamaica Trade Point
Jamaica Trade Point is Jamaica's trade facilitation portal
where both exporters and importers can carry out their trade-related
transactions with the relevant organizations online and in
a seamless manner. This initiative was borne out of the Jamaican
government's Public Sector Modernisaton Programme and its
e-government thrust, with efforts to rationalize public sector
processes, thereby significantly improving trade facilitation
with consequent increases in the country's competitiveness.
We are particularly proud that all the facilities offer the
convenience of electronic payment, for example, Jamaica Customs
now accepts online payment of duties and user fees, using
credit cards. At the Jamaica Trade Point portal, market opportunities
are broadly researched, companies targeted for sales opportunities
and venture partnerships, government bureaucracies are rapidly
cleared and business transactions are conveniently executed.
Specifically, the initial phase includes the online processing
of:
- Customs' importing and exporting forms (C78 & C82)
- The Trade Board's applications for licenses and export
certification
- JAMPRO's registration of exporting companies, products
and consignees, and The Shipping Association of Jamaica's
e-Manifest
Later additions will include the Port Community System linking
all shipping and port early 2004, and all the trade-related
applications of the Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of
Agriculture (MoA), and our Commodity Boards late 2004. At
this point Jamaica will be reaping the full benefits of having
a comprehensive end-to-end trade facilitation system, resulting
in company level efficiency gains as well as increased international
competitiveness in the trade arena.
The business model of is inspired by UNCTAD's 1-2-3 model
for trade efficiency, where partners in the five (5) sectors
that offer critical services to the exporting community are
integrated under 'one virtual roof' to facilitate increased
efficiencies and to reduce trade transaction costs. These
sectors are: Trade Facilitation, Business
